Women don’t have to:
- be thin
- have a vagina
- give birth
- cook for you
- have long hair
- wear makeup
- have sex with you
- be feminine
- be graceful
- shave
- be white
- diet
- be fashionable
- wear pink
- love men
- be the media’s idea of perfection
- listen to your bullshit
Even I need to be reminded of some of these things occasionally.
Someday this is what a band is gonna see when they hit the stage, if so called fans keep illegally downloading bands music. The reason every band is touring to survive because record sales don’t help them and its creating an over-saturation of the markets. Some bands are still doing very well but most lose a ton of money on tour. Cd sales gets a band tour support from labels, tour support is money that labels give the bands to go on tour to promote their CDs. When a band cd sales are low they don’t get any support from the label which means bands can’t tour. This empty room will be happening more and more to bands until labels and bands work together to figure the future of the music business.
Some bands encourage illegal downloads because they already have had some success and the start up bands that DON’T have a record label are just looking to get notices which to them the more their music is out there the more chances they get to get noticed.
Illegal download is helpful for small bands and large bands but it’s hurting a broad spectrum of bands that are in the middle. By middle I mean they just got a deal are one of many bands under the label but don’t get the necessary attention from the label because they don’t move a lot of CDs (I wonder why?) which means no tour support which means getting dropped from label and it can turn into a vicious cycle.
The more fans understand the better they will know what helps or hurts a band. Let’s hope no band has to ever get on stage and this be their view.
This is my opinion and only an opinion.
P.S in a unrelated note, notice the light bulb on stage? It’s called a Ghost light. (thanks Joledo for noticing that)
The purpose of the light is to keep ghosts away.
The light gives ghosts the opportunity to perform onstage to appease and prevent them from cursing the theatre or sabotaging the set or production. Many theatre ghosts are thought to be former actors. This need is also used to explain the traditional one day a week that theatres are closed.
By always leaving a light on you avoid the bad luck or sadness of a theatre being left “dark” with no shows running due to lack of money, unsuccessful productions, or otherwise.
Not technically a superstition, but some tell the story that a burglar broke into a theatre and fell into the orchestra pit and sued the theatre for injuries. Thus the light is a protection against liability. There is no strict evidence to support this story.
